In the cassava fields in Ratchaburi Province there is a talking hill myna bird who has given out correct lottery numbers.

ไปตรวจสอบ พบชาวบ้านจำนวนมากแห่กันมาดูเจ้านกขุนทองดังกล่าว มี 2 ตัวเป็นตัวผู้กับตัวเมียอาศัยอยู่บนต้นตาล

Upon investigation we encountered villagers gathering to see the myna. There are 2 myna birds, a male and a female living in a sugar palm tree.

โดยนายจาตุรนต์ ออกเวหา อายุ 52 ปี เปิดเผยว่า นกขุนทองคู่นี้ มาอาศัยอยู่บนต้นตาล 2 เดือนแล้ว ก่อน หน้า มีคนงานมาปลูกมันสำปะหลังแล้วได้ยินเสียงนกพูดขึ้นมาว่า “มาทำอะไรกันตรงนี้”

According to Mr. Jatroon, 53, the birds had been living in the sugar palm tree for 2 months when workers came to plant cassava. They said that they heard the birds saying “What are you doing here?”

คนงานตกใจ คิดว่าเป็นเสียงผีหลอก ต่อมามีพระที่วัดหนองกลางดงนำผลไม้ เช่น กล้วย มะละกอ มาให้นกก็พูดบอกว่า “พระ 2 รูปน่ะ มาทำไม”พระจึงรู้ว่า เป็นเสียงนกพูดเอง

The workers were afraid and thought it was ghosts. Later, monks from Nong Klangdong Temple brought fruit, bananas and papayas to give to the birds which said “You 2 monks, why did you come here?” The monks (said they) knew it was the birds talking.

กระทั่งชาวบ้านทราบข่าวจึงพากันมาขอหวยและถูกรางวัลกัน ยิ่งถ้าเป็นวันหยุดตั้งแต่ช่วงเช้าไปจนถึงเย็นจะมาเรียกว่า พ่อขุนทองจ๋า แม่ขุนทองจ๋า ลงมาหน่อย นกขุนทองก็ถามเองว่า “มาทำไมกัน เยอะแยะ”

When the villagers learned about this they went to ask for the (winning) lottery numbers, especially on holidays, from morning till evening. They’d call out “Father Myna, Mother Myna, come down.” The myna answered “What are so many of you doing here?”

ชาวบ้านที่มาก็จะบอกว่ามาขอหวย บางคนหลังถูกหวยก็รีบนำผลไม้ที่นกชอบมาวางไว้ให้กินเป็นรางวัล

The villagers said they came to ask for the winning lottery numbers. Some of the winners hurried to bring fruit that they (the birds) like to thank the birds as a reward.

ด้านนางสมร เกิดเทวา อายุ 40 ปี กล่าวว่า ได้ยินเสียงพูดตัวเลขค่อนข้างชัดมาก คนอื่นไม่เชื่อไม่เป็นไร แต่ตนคิดว่าไม่เสียหายหากจะลองเชื่อ จากนั้นก็ถูกหวยติดต่อกันมา 10 งวด ซึ่งงวดล่าสุดคือเลข 51.

Ms Som Kertaewa, 40, said that she heard (the birds) saying numbers very clearly. She doesn’t care if others don’t believe her but doesn’t think any harm is done if they do believe. Since then she has hit the lottery 10 times. The latest was with the number “51”.
